This beautiful heron did just that to this unsuspecting waterfowl and swallowed the stricken bird whole while it was still alive.
The coot can be seen with its head clamped between the mighty bird's beak flapping its wings and desperately trying to make an escape.
But sadly there was no way out and the heron demonstrated to his smaller cousin its higher position on the food chain. The extraordinary incident was caught on camera by keen birdwatcher Pete Lowndes and his wife Audrey on a trip to an RSPB bird sanctuary at Wath-upon-Dearne, South Yorkshire.

The chimpanzee, Anjana, who is five, has lived her whole life at The Institute of Greatly Endangered and Rare Species (TIGERS) in South Carolina, in the U.S.. She is well qualified to be a kitten-sitter.
Since orphaned puma cub Sierra turned up at the zoo, Anjana has helped her human carers with all the feeding, cuddling and chasing duties.
Anjana has already helped to bring up two royal white tiger cubs, a leopard and four lions.
The most dangerous freshwater fish are piranhas which live in South American rivers. In Venezuelan rivers, they are called caribes. They are known for their sharp teeth and a voracious appetite for meat.

Koda, The 'American miniature' horse - who is only 59cm tall, suffers the double-whammy of being born a dwarf - has had a bout of health problems caused by his size, but he is now recovering and enjoying the life of a pampered pet.
He was no bigger than a cat at birth. He is so tiny, visitors often assume he's a stuffed toy. Brave Koda has had lots of surgery to correct his stumpy, buckled legs but that hasn't helped his peculiar face. After the surgeries Koda looks set to live a long and fruitful life.
